Lake

The lake is a 2.5 acre lake with a mainly clay bottom with areas of silt and well defined gravel bars and feeding holes. Positioned around the lake are 5 double swims. Mature trees line the banks all the way around the lake but with easy access for offloading fishing equipment with a bait cart.

The five swims are all made-up gravel swims and are all generous doubles for two pods. Adjacent to each swim is sufficient space for setting up more or more bivvies

Stock Pond

The stock pond contains some of our stars of the future. Originally stocked with C1/2 Czech-Hungarian Carp in 2022 and a few smaller carp removed from the main lake this stock pond provides an area for the smaller fish to grow on until such a time as they are big enough to be introduced to the main lake. Also in this lake are a couple of koi carp. The stock pond provides an ideal environment for younger anglers to enjoy a fishing experience with smaller rods and float rods before trying out on the main lake.

Tour of the Lake – November 2025

Below is an end of season video tour of the lake at Firs Lake France

Firs Lake Netting 2025

2023 Netting

November saw us making a netting of the lake. The primary objectives of the netting were to remove a good number of the silver fish, reduce the number of smaller carp (below 15lbs), to remove the smaller catfish. But also it gave us a chance to check on the health of our carp (and other) stock within the lake.

The netting was a huge success with over 660lb of silvers removed from the lake and 7 of the smaller cat fish. Added to this we were able to re-home 7 smaller carp to our Sister lake at Craon and transfer a couple of future stars to the stock pond at Firs Lake.

And it gave us the chance to get a good close look at some of the carp in the lake. The great news is that the carp all looked to be in a really healthy and well nourished state.

The 2024/5 Winter Work Plan – Lake and land

The closed season always provides he opportunity to maintain the land around the lake and the lake itself.

This year the focus will be the continued removal of large amounts of silt around the road side banks up towards the main entrance and around Carp Corner. As we move through the winter months these digger works will be augmented with Siltex treatment for the reactivation of the breakdown of the silt.

The lake will be netted again this year in order for us to continue with the stock management. This year the focus will be on the removal of silver fish and the reduction in the numbers of small cats (below 50lb) and carp below 20lbs. The smaller cats will be re-sited to The Famous Five‘s Birch Predator Lake and the smaller carp to Craon Lake 2 as we continue to focus on that lake becoming closer to a match fishing lake. New carp stock are planned for Firs Lake as well as additional zander and pike being introduced to help in the management of the smaller fish.
